Baby Photography Safety Procedure

1. Ensure the safety of the baby: a. Make sure you have a clean and safe area to photograph the baby. b. Make sure the room is not too cold or hot. Have plenty of blankets or a heating/air conditioning unit available c. Have a spotter or assistant nearby to help if needed.

2. Prepare the equipment: a. Make sure all of the equipment is in working condition and is stable enough to support the baby. b. Make sure you have back-up batteries and camera memory cards in case something goes wrong.

3. Properly position the baby: a. Make sure the baby is securely fastened to the prop or seated in a secure position before taking pictures. b. Never leave the baby unattended.

4. Take pictures: a. Take pictures from a safe distance to ensure the babys safety. b. Make sure to use a fast shutter speed to ensure no motion blur. c. Turn off any overhead lights and use additional soft lights to ensure the baby looks natural.

5. Post-Photoshoot: a. Carefully inspect the baby for any redness or irritation caused by the photoshoot. b. Make sure to clean up any spills or debris caused by the photoshoot. c. Make sure to return the equipment to its original condition.

  • Always ensure the baby is comfortable and well-rested before you begin any photo session.
  • Place the baby on a flat surface and use props to ensure the baby is secure and not in any danger of rolling off.
  • Make sure the baby is not left alone. Always have a guardian present to ensure the baby is not in any danger or discomfort.
  • Have a predictable workflow and keep the room at a comfortable temperature.
  • Use natural light when possible to create beautiful, natural-looking images.
  • If you are using a flash, use only diffused light and be mindful of flashes’ reflective capabilities.
  • When posing the baby, avoid any poses that could put them in a dangerous position or where their face or mouth may be covered.
  • Ensure all props used in the photo session are safe, age-appropriate, and have been washed before use.
  • Use caution when photographing newborns to avoid overheating them.
  • Ask for permission before sharing any images of the baby on social media or other platforms.
